This Halloween syllables game came to me from a little walk through the Target dollar spot. It is even possible to go to Target without visiting the dollar spot? 🙂 With all of the cheap goodies they have, you’re surely able to come away with some inspiration for new activities for your classroom.
For this Halloween syllables game, all you really need are these FREE syllable cards. For added fun, I grabbed some candy corn, and these cute Halloween glove and bucket that were $1 each in the Target dollar spot. The Halloween gloves were what inspired me to create this game.
Having students clapping out syllables can be a bit noisy if they are playing during center time. Wearing the gloves makes this game much quieter. The candy corn is just for some sensory fun while picking the cards out of the bucket. To play the games:
1. Fill the bucket with the candy corn and syllable cards.
2. Have kids pull out a card, clap the syllables, then sort it under the correct number card.
3. Keep playing until all of the cards are sorted
Tip: you could put the answer on the back of the cards and have students check their answersThe game works on 1-4 syllable sounds. How fun are these Halloween gloves?!? Target had 4 different colors/designs.
This game can still be great syllable sorting practice even if you don’t buy the gloves, bucket, or candy corn!
While you have your candy corn out, you can also play this FREE number sense game that is also included in my FREE Resource library.
