Description
Physical Phonics will help your students practice phonics and phonemic awareness skills by being incorporating movement. Students will get a fun way to practice letters, beginning sounds, phoneme segmentation, syllables, etc. By teaching children through many techniques (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic movement), their brain is able to process the information in multiple ways. Physical Phonics helps meet the needs of all of your students, no matter which way they learn best.
What’s Included?
• Sound Stomp – incorporate movement into your lesson/centers by letting students stomp out the number of sounds they hear in a word (2-5 sounds). This is great phoneme segmentation (PSF) practice.
• Syllable Stomp – incorporate movement into your lesson/centers by letting students stomp out the number of syllables they hear in a word (1-4 syllables)
• 4 Corners – incorporate movement and music into your whole group lesson by playing this fun game that can work on letters, beginning sounds, phoneme segmentation, syllables, vowels, and sentences. My students LOVE this game!!!
• Elkonin boxes (3 mats) – help students work on phoneme segmentation by stretching out the sounds they hear in a word. Let students use magnetic chips and wands for added fun! You can also work on spelling, by having students build the words.
• List of 7 quick/easy movement activities to do during whole group phonics (can use these ideas with many skills)
